We envision a system that can constantly monitor the occupancy of all seats in a library setting. The system uses Broadcom WICED sensors installed on each seat to collect both temperature and movement signals from the occupant. These signals are processed locally to determine seat occupancy before sending the real-time data to the Cloud, from which our website gathers the information and display library status to the users in an interactive way.

Seat availability becomes constrained during library “rush hours”, forcing students to spend valuable time wandering around in the library looking for empty seats. The smart seats no only allow students to immediately locate empty seats in their favorite library, but also provide a reservation system for certain seats in the library.
